Milford Sound Lodge

Fourteen 35sqm luxury studio chalets have been designed to capitalize on the breathtaking views of the Fiordland World heritage location, whilst offering guests a comfortable stay.  Inside space includes a spacious bedroom area with Super King size bed and ensuite bathroom, a modern kitchenette and cosy lounge area.

To circumvent site-specific construction difficulties such as frequent rainfall and stringent waste disposal regulations in a national park, the units have been built in Invercargill, and transported by truck through the Homer Tunnel.

Designed with sustainability in mind, the chalets give the lion’s share to locally sourced materials such as macrocarpa wood.  High insulation levels keep humidity and cold out, whilst doorways are reduced in order to avoid sandfly intrusion.  Large windows, strategically placed with regards to height, ensure that guests enjoy panoramic views over the Cleddau River and the Sheerdown Moutains from key resting areas.  At the entrance of each unit, timber slats are used with the dual purpose of adding privacy and breaking up wind.
